The government has thanked pro-government social media users from across the world, popularly known as “Varakashi,” for controlling the agenda in cyberspace.

According to critics, Varakashi, which means “destroyers,” are vocal apologists who always defend the government and criticize anyone who dares to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s policies or leadership. However, to their supporters, Varakashi are loyal patriots who fight to defend the country’s interests.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana paid tribute to the online army on Saturday morning. Writing on Twitter, Mangwana said,

Today I just want to appreciate a group of people who are affectionately known as VARAKASHI. These cadres rock. ED came to power when Social Media was on the verge of being banned. He embraced. Today ED builds the nation non-stop while Varakashi control the agenda in cyberspace.

Where ever MURAKASHI is, be it in Zimbabwe, UK, SA, Namibia, North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, thank you.
