Zimbabweans are being urged to participate in a nationwide shutdown that will take place on Friday. This shutdown is to protest President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government and its handling of the economy.

Zimbabwe is one of the most recent examples of anti-government protests in Africa. The Zimbabwean public has been rather vocal about their displeasure with the economic situation in Zimbabwe and how it has worsened under Mnangagwa’s leadership. The president, however, does not seem to be too worried about what the citizens think about him.   urges Zimbabweans to participate in tomorrow’s shutdown, the first one since 2018 . The shutdown is set to take place to protest against the ‘blatant, unabashed abuse of power’ and the terrible economic situation that Zimbabwe finds herself in.

The protest movement was originally called by students union Zinasu. In recent weeks, however, it has been endorsed by several high profile politicians as well as artists and civil society organisations.

Online ,  majority of Zimbabweans have taken to social media to encourage citizens to participate in Tomorrow’s Shutdown protests.

 These are protests against Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decision to increase fuel prices and to capture  ZEC.
