Zanu-PF Puppet Says His Post is Up for Grabs in Forthcoming MDC-T Congress

Zanu-PF puppet (MDC-T) president, Douglas Mwonzora, who reshuffled the top leadership of the party today, says his position is up for grabs in the forthcoming congress.

Addressing reporters in Harare today, Mwonzora said all party members interested in his position and others, are expected to start campaigning as per the MDC-T rules and regulatons.

“There is going to be elections at Congress and these elections will be done by the members of the MDC-T. So, we are going to start our congress processes. There are doing to be congresses at ward level, district level, provincial and national levels. When we get to the provinces there will be a process of nomination of the candidates and then we go to the main congress.

“In this Congress, true to tradition, we are going to be electing one another into office. There is no position that is holy. There is no position that is a no go area. So, we are going to have elections for president, we are going to have elections for vice president, national chairperson, vice national chairperson, etc, and when the time comes there will be internal nominations and after nominations the candidates are allowed to canvas for support. They are going to have about a month to do that.”

Mwonzora further announced the reshuffling of the party’s Standing Committee, the highest organ outside Congress, by bringing in Tapuwa Mashakada as vice secretary general and Dr. Tichavanani Mavetere as treasurer of the MDC-T. Several other party members were added to various posts ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Mwonzora’s MDC-T performed dismally in the March 26 by-elections in which it did’nt get any votes in some polling stations despite having deployed its own agents.

He seized the MDC Alliance from its then leader Nelson Chamisa early this year resulting in Chamisa forming the Citizens Coalition for Change, which registered huge victories in the by-elections.
