Police To Issue Statement On Moreblessing Ali’s Disappearance : Zim Government

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will “soon issue a public statement” on the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali.

Ali, an activist of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa was allegedly abducted by suspected ZANU PF members on the night of 24 May and her whereabouts are still unknown six days later.Police are yet to issue a statement despite several calls by the opposition party for authorities to investigate the matter. Mangwana’s Monday post seen By Pindula News reads:Regarding the Moreblessing Ali case, police will soon issue a Public Statement giving details. Please bear with us. Thank you for your patience.

CCC says Ali was abducted by Simba Chisango, who is a ZANU PF leader in the Nyatsime area.

Previously, some government critics, including opposition activists and human rights defenders were reported to have been abducted only to resurface in police custody. Some of them report that they would have spent several nights being tortured.

There are some who were reported to have been kidnapped by suspected state security agents and they were never seen again. These include journalist Itai Dzamara who went missing in 2015.

Authorities deny the accusations saying the alleged abductions are either stage-managed to soil the image of the country or there was a third force carrying out the abductions for the same reason.
