Zimbabwe Telecoms Regulatory Authority Rolling Out Community Networks for Enhancing Digital Communication

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) says it wants to roll out local community-driven initiatives to build, control and operate telecommunications network infrastructure to facilitate digital communication.

POTRAZ announced this in a public notice in which it invited people and companies interested in setting up community networks and require funding from the Authority to submit their proposals not later than 5 June, 2022.

“The invitation is open to any Zimbabwean(s) representing their community who are interested in setting up a community network in their province for the benefit of their local community.”

The proposal is expected to outline detailed technical design, funding, comprehensive business model proposal covering sustainability mechanisms post-funding, technical expertise, project timelines, detailed CVs of critical personnel for the project and possible references, skills development training, detailed plan on the engagement of community and lifetime of project and beyond.

The proposal should also include licensing measures and partnerships.

“Those willing to participate can submit their proposals to the regulator@potraz.gov.zw, not later than 5 June 2022. Proposals received after this date will not be considered.”
